Aircraft

Those that landed at Aitutaki during WWII

Air traffic and activity was light at Amuri Airfield during its entire military history. Landings averaged 12.2 planes per month. About six or seven contract carriers were routed through this station per month until February 1944, when this service was discontinued and the majority of activity consisted of Air Transport Command aircraft. After October 1944 the US Naval Station at Tutuila in American Samoa became responsible for air transport in and out of Aitutaki, mainly using PBY5 and DC3 aircraft, some of which were Royal New Zealand Air Force planes that were also stationed at Tutuila.
